Legendary Napa Bike Wine Tour November 11, 2011

The ultimate Napa Valley cycling experience featuring gourmet food, world class wines, and bike riding with Andy Hampsten and Bob Roll!

Thursday, November 1, 2012 – 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and
Friday, November 2, 2011 – 8:00 am to 6:00 pm

“I love riding in Napa valley; there are climbs that I have not ridden in too long of time. I am honored to be asked to be a guest rider with Bob Roll,” says Hampsten. “And the special dinner you’ve planned, plus the beautiful ride through Napa Valley the next day will make this an unforgettable experience. I especially look forward to sitting around with a glass of wine with Bob and the group, and will be happy to talk informally or answer questions about the old days of racing.”

Napa Bike has organized the ultimate wine country cycling experience for Thursday, November 1 and Friday, November 2 in the heart of the Napa Valley. This exclusive event features a 55-mile bike ride with Andy Hampsten, the only American winner of the Giro d’Italia, and Bob Roll, his former team mate and the renowned American commentator covering all of cycling’s grand tours. It isn’t only a bike ride with Legends, it is a total Napa Valley experience, launched with a gourmet welcome dinner at Vineyard 29 on Thursday evening, prepared by rising culinary star chef Gustavo Rios of Michelin Star winning Solbar in Calistoga.  The dinner is preceded by Master of Wine Peter Marks leading a private tasting of world class reserve wines from some of Napa Valley’s finest vineyards.

The ride begins with breakfast at Auberge du Soleil in Rutherford where the lucky group of riders will set off for a tour of the quieter roads of rural Napa County. Pine Ridge Winery is the lunch rest stop where executive chef Janet Sheehan will prepare a light meal to fuel the riders for the final leg of their journey through Napa Valley to Velo Vino in St. Helena, where Gary Erickson’s crew will welcome the peloton for a session of story-telling and jersey signing by Andy and Bob—all of which will be enjoyed with more great food and fine wine from Clif Family Vineyards.

Peter Marks, MW, has teamed up with selected Napa Valley winemakers who are pulling out all the stops for the special Reserve Wine Tasting at Vineyard 29.  Chef Rios, has designed a dinner that fits perfectly in the Legendary category. And Velo Vino has a special dessert food and wine pairing planned as the Grand Finale.  “I am particularly looking forward to this part of the ride,” says Bob Roll with a big smile.

Only twenty-five people will be allowed to participate in this exclusive wine country cycling, wine tasting, and gourmet dining adventure tour.  Each of the twenty-five participants will receive a special commemorative cycling jersey signed by Andy Hampsten and Bob Roll.

The cost of the 2012 Legendary Napa Bike Wine Tour is $1500 per person, which is a tax-deductible donation  to the Napa County Bicycle Coalition, a California non-profit 501(c)3 organization. All proceeds from this event benefit the Coalition and its goals to make Napa County more bicycle-friendly for cyclists of all types and persuasions. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first served basis, and only twenty-five places are available.
